Where would you stay?

My husband and I are coming through Mississippi in June, just a 1 night stay. We are going to stop by the National Park in Vicksburg for a visit, but otherwise, we have no plans for the time there. We are coming from Chattanooga TN and heading home to Dallas TX. I%26#39;ve looked at hotels/b%26amp;bs/casinos in Vicksburg, but nothing looks fab-maybe I%26#39;m wrong or just missing something. I need help. Where would you stay along this stretch of highway???

Thanks to all that reply!

Where would you stay?

Are you traveling from Chattanooga down to Birmingham, then west on I-20? Or, going west through TN, then down I-55?

In the first case, I would stop in Vicksburg. It is about 7 hours from Chattanooga, and about 6 hours from Vicksurg to Dallas. It is not that big, but offers your best opportunities for unique attractions. For a special place to stay, try Cedar Grove Mansion. It has views, pretty grounds, a great dining room, and a LOT of history. It is convenient to Washington Street- history, shops, restaurants, riverfront, etc.

For an clean, new, convenient more economical place, try the Hampton or Comfort Suites. Both those are at the same exit, and convenient to the National Park entrance. The Comfort Suites is VERY new and has an indoor pool.

If you come from Memphis via Jackson, go instead down US 61 and stop in Clarksdale (home of Blues music, etc.) Stay at the Shack Up Inn, or browse

www.visitthedelta.com for more info on this area.

This website also has a lot of info on Vicskburg.

You could stay in Brandon or Clinton (east %26amp; west suburbs of Jackson), but they are uneventful.

Have fun,

Miller

thankyou very much Miller.

We are planning on stopping in Vicksburg anyway, so staying there now sounds more logical and a little info from you helps tons. I%26#39;ll check out the cedar grove b%26amp;b and the two hotels you mentioned in Vicksburg.

We won%26#39;t be on 55, just 20 heading straight through Mississippi, LA and into TX. This is the end of our week long trip, so just staying somewhere relaxing will be wonderful!

One more thing..

Anchuca is also one of the nicer homes in Vicksburg.

VERY lovely, comfy, etc. but I think a bit more $ and you cannot see the River from there.

Have fun,

Miller
