AirTran discontinuing Gulfport-FtLaud service. Aargh!!

All: I%26#39;ve been simmering all week. Have to vent lol! After trying to book flights in March or April from Ft Laud to Gulfport for about an hour with no success on the website, I bit the bullet and called the 800 number for AirTran.

Customer service informed me that it wasn%26#39;t my computer, that they are discontinuing service between Gulfport and Fort Lauderdale as of 01/05/09. I%26#39;m not an economist , but can the Gulfport/Biloxi area afford NOT having a full plane of people arriving to the area. We flew there in October on a Sunday and there was not an empty seat on the plane. We flew home on Wednesday and there were maybe 10-12 empty seats.

Disappointed, sick of the two full days to get to and from Vegas. We really enjoyed staying in Biloxi, and I really can%26#39;t understand how a tourist /gambling area can afford a 10% drop in visitors in this day and age.

Hoping maybe someone in here has another idea of how to get there from Ft Laud without flying thru Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis, or New Orleans. Once you change planes, etc. you might as well go to Vegas. Car rental prices in New Orleans are 60% higher than Gulport rates, so that really doesn%26#39;t make sense to spend an extra hundred to drive from New Orleans to Biloxi.

Someone needs to give Gulfport and Air Tran a bailout I fear lol.

Okay , all vented, lol. Mark

AirTran discontinuing Gulfport-FtLaud service. Aargh!!

Hey Mark,

I agree with you, as on the Air Tran flights from Atlanta are always packed. I wonder if Atl-Gulf Port is still happening? There is always Delta from Atl but they are pricey! Have you checked for Delta, Fort Lauderdale-Gulf Port?

Is AirTran still offering service from any other city near you that would be close enough to drive? Have you checked the fairs for Delta?

I agree to that this area can not handle any more devastation and needs all the help it can get, in getting folks to the area.

We are about to head down there driving on 12/25 for 5 days (Biloxi/New Orleans) but it is also nice to jump a quick 50 flight down there for the weekends when I desire.

Good luck!

Vicki

AirTran discontinuing Gulfport-FtLaud service. Aargh!!

I have been going to Biloxi for the past 9 years from Tampa to New Orleans. I fly Southwest which has 3 NS flights everyday. I am going at the end of January and they had a special so the entire cost of the RT was $115. I did always track Airtran and found them at least $100 and upto $200 more per RT from Tampa.

SWA has a ';Ding'; program and will run specials at times.

I have found cars to be cheaper in NO. I normally use Alamo. If you play with various codes and coupons (google ';Alamo code coupon discounts';) you can play with various combinations to get a cheap car. On my last trip a got a midsize for 3 days and the total bill with all the taxes was $63. I have one now booked for 3 days at $85. Sometimes the price will drop as you get closer to your rental day. There is no charge to make a reservation. I make one, when I find a cheaper one, I make a new one and then cancel the ';old'; one.

Before the fuel crunch, I was flying RT and with a car for as low as $150. It is a little tougher now but the deals still show up. Also with SWA Rewards program, I earn a free RT ticket in about every 14 to 16 months.

The 100 mile drive is about 1.5 hours, but currently the flight leaves Tampa just before 7AM and I will be at a slot machine by 9:30 AM. I flyback at either 3 or 5 PM. Airtran out of Tampa left at I think between 1 and 3 and come back at around 11am.

Love Vegas but hate the 5 hour flight and the res-eyes coming back.

SWA just ';dinged'; me with $55 one ways between Tampa and New Orleans on selective flights in Jan %26amp; Feb.

Need to book by Monday night, Dec 15th 8:30 Central

  • Biloxi vs. Tunica for poker, which is better?

A friend and I both in our late 20%26#39;s would like to get away in January for a few days. Live in Atlanta area, can%26#39;t afford to go to Vegas but can afford to drive to either Biloxi or Tunica. Which of these places would be the best for Texas Hold-em Poker? I suggested Biloxi but my friend has seen them play in Tunica on TV and thought that might be the better place to go. From what I have read, the casinos in Tunica are pretty spread out and it makes it harder to go from place to place. Are either of these places good for Hold-em and which casinos are the best? I pretty much stick with slots but he really wants to play some poker. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Biloxi vs. Tunica for poker, which is better?

    Hi-

I%26#39;m also live in GA! We are set to go to Biloxi on 12/25 for 3 nights and then to New Orlenns for 2 nights. I have been to both places before in addtion to Tunica.

I do not play poker, just black jack and slots. I do know that the Beau Rivage has a nice size poker room in the back, far left of the casino. Never played though. There are also 6 other casinos within about 5 miles of the Beau Rivage. The Beau Rivage feels like a mini Bellagio to me and is also a MGM property. There is also the Harrah%26#39;s Grand that is about 1.5 miles down on the same street. Not that impressed with the Grand. It%26#39;s a very small casino.

The Tunica casinos are spaced out, however there are 3 that are grouped together and are accessible by walking. I believe they are the Hollywood, Sheraton and Resorts but I could be wrong about the names of the three. Otherwise, there is about a 5-10 drive between each but there is a shuttle that makes it%26#39;s way around to each casino. When I was last there, about 3 years ago, the charge was $1 per ride. Not bad considering that you can drink at each casino and not have to worry about driving to another.

    I hope this helps!

    Vicki

Biloxi vs. Tunica for poker, which is better?

Forgot to mention that in Biloxi, there is the Hard Rock Casino right next door to the Beau Rivage. Very easy walking to it from the Beau and it is also ocean front.

I hope you have fun and lots of luck where ever you decide to go....

I have never been to Biloxi, but have gone to Tunica many times and love it. Yes the places are spread out- but it is not that bad, especially if you are driving. There is always a poker tourney going on nightly- as well as table games. Our favorite for the poker is Sams Town, but they all have something to offer. Sams town has $3 / $6 and up- tables, which is about the cheapest in town. You can ask around for the tourneys, there is one nightly, at different casinos.

I have been to both Biloxi %26amp; Tunica and like them both. The casinos are spread out in both towns and poker rooms at most of the casinos. Biloxi casinos are mostly down the beach some are on the back bay area. Biloxi has barrier islands off the coast so you don%26#39;t have the waves you would normally see at a beach and with the Mississippi river going into the gulf the water isn%26#39;t that clean. Tunica has nine casinos mostly spread out a few miles apart with the exception of Gold Strike, Horseshoe, and the Sheratan, are all in one parking lot. Sam%26#39;s Town is also right across the street from Hollywood %26amp; Resorts which have a covered walkway between them. I like both towns for different reasons but usually visit Tunica more because its closer to me.

Thanks for the tips so far. I have driven through Biloxi a couple times but that was before I was old enough to go in the casinos so I know what the beach area is like and the gulf. I was just curious about the poker rooms. Which days are busiest? Which casinos have the best poker rooms?

My friend thinks the Beau Rivage poker room is one of the best. He%26#39;s been all over - compares it to Mirage in Vegas.

I%26#39;ve been to Tunica and Biloxi. Biloxi is my favorite.

Being in your 20s, you might like the Hard Rock. It%26#39;s right next to the Beau.

    Trip report 12/2 to 12/9

Okay-after writing two reports and not getting through I see now I can. Anyway I would like to write this report because we have so enjoyed reading other trip reports before we go on our trips that I thought it was now my turn. We have been to Biloxi three times before and have enjoyed three to five days there. But this time in looking over our coupons we saw we could spend six nights comped and only spend money on a hotel for Friday night. Yeah! Let%26#39;s get out of Michigan for a week and spend time in our beloved Biloxi. Not sure if seven days is too much but lets give it try! Our first night our flight got in late so we headed right to Island View for the buffett. The shrimp was so big it takes two bites to eat one shrimp. This buffett turned out to be the best for us. Gambled a little and lost so we headed for our first comped room-the Beau Rivage. Beautifully decorated for Christmas but our reservation for smoking with gulf veiw was gone. The lady said ';first come first serve';. But the next mourning a very nice lady gave us all we wanted and an apology. Nice touch. The standard room was large and I so enjoyed the garden tub with my bubbles! Casino was not crowded the first two days we were there-makes me worry. Won some -did not lose much. Ate at the Terrace Cafe -clam chowder and cobb salad excellent. Love the Beau but on to our next comped room the Hard Rock. The room at the Hard Rock was strange. Sliding door to the bathroom-lights in the bathroom will distrub your partner. But the beds were comfy and the veiw of the pool and the gulf was nice. This was my favorite casino with newer games and an open feeling. Ate at 24/7-the best chicken wrap sandwich and Po boys. Ate also at the buffett twice because they comped us. Found this was the best place for comps. The buffett was good but do they have to keep the heads on the shrimp? Next was our only room we paid for. The Isle of Capri with a balcony was $130. for a Friday night. Room was outdated-but then to be fair we just checked out of the Beau and Hard Rock. It was in the 50 degree mark but being from Michigan I still enjoyed the balcony! The casino was crowded and tight. Ate only at the buffett and found this was the only place that had praline sauce that I love. Rest of food was okay. The next three days we spent at the Imperial Palace. Smaller room but nice. We were on the 27th floor and enjoyed the veiw of the city and fireworks they had that night. Casino nice with two floors-the second floor always less crowded. Decided to eat out of the casino . We went to Blow Fly inn and The Shed. Both well worth the drive. Our trip now is over and we still wish we were in Biloxi. Thank you Biloxi for your hospitality and spending seven days there-we found-was not enough for us!

    Trip report 12/2 to 12/9

Thanks for posting. Sounds like you had a great time and seven days was not too long!

    Trip report 12/2 to 12/9

Thanks for the TR! We are leaving Georgia on 12/25 for 3 nights in Biloxi and 2 nights in New Orleans. We had hoped someone would be making a trip to the gulf area and post a trip report. We will be staying our first night at Island View too and then moving to the Beau.

Thanks for your account of each casino. Did it appear the Beau had any new games like Wizard of OZ or Happy Days?

Glad you had a good trip. How did you end up overall-up/down?

    Thanks,

    Vicki

Hi Vicki! I so envy you going to Biloxi! I am having trouble getting my messages through-must be doing something wrong. Hope this doesn%26#39;t come up double again. Anyway, The Beau has two Wizard of Oz machines right by the Players Club. The only Happy Day machine I remember is at Hard Rock{about a five min. walk) right before you enter the casino. The Beau had newer penny machines-I had the best luck on Monarch penny machine. Hubby had no luck at all at the Beau. At the Island Veiw had luck on the Whales of Cash and Wheres the Gold penny machines. The Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis is where we had the best luck. After all this luck we still ended down overall but was affordable. Good luck-have fun and please write when you get back -I would love to hear all about your trip! Beth.

Thanks for the info on the %26#39;good%26#39; machines and the stats on the casinos. I will update this post when I return on 12/30.

    Have a happy holiday season!!

    Vicki

Thanks for the TR! We%26#39;ve never stayed in Biloxi for that length of time...always afraid we%26#39;d lose all our money gambling. Interesting that you stayed at at different hotels during your trip.

You%26#39;ve inspired me to look into to this!

Thanks for your reply! Yes we were also afraid of losing our budgeted money in three days and then wait four more days to go home with nothing to do. But we decided to allot a set of money every day and keep what we won (sometimes over and sometimes under) We found a lot to do in Biloxi. Walked on beach and around area (found Katrina memorial this way,) took drives in area, relaxed in room. Love this town! Hope you have as much fun if you go! Beth.

    Slots at the Fitz

I am strictly a penny and nickel slot player and will be traveling to Tunica at the end of the month. Are there are newer slot machines at the Fitz, such as Wizard of Oz?

    Slots at the Fitz

Yes! As of the first week of this month, they had a pretty good selection on both floors of the Fitz (old and new slots). The wizard of oz slots are on the 1st floor.

    Trip Report Dec. 11-14

For my birthday, my husband gave me a long weekend to Biloxi. My girlfriends and I left early on Thursday morning. Upon arriving at Beau Rivage, we were able to check-in to our double room. We had a view out the front of the hotel. (It was a comp, so I didn%26#39;t mind not getting an oceanview.) We headed straight downstairs to split one of their humongous hot dogs and a rueben. We then hit the slots and drinks.

After playing for a few hours, we taxied to Isle of Capri. My friend thinks her lucky machine is there. (It wasn%26#39;t - lol) We stayed there for a couple of hours and decided to go to The Grand. No taxi. We thought no problem - it%26#39;s only across the street. Did I mention how cold and windy it was? We walked for what was probably 5-10 minutes but seemed like 30. We played there for about an hour, then taxied to IP. After playing there for an hour, we decided to head back to the Beau for dinner at Terrace Cafe.

The waiter there had much to be desired, but the food was very good. I had lettuce wraps. GF 1 had muffaletta. GF 2 had a cheeseburger. The food was very good. Back to drinks and machines until midnight. Day 2 to follow.

    Trip Report Dec. 11-14

    Hi ScubaA,

Glad you had a good trip. Sounds like lots of fun! Nothing like a group of girls having fun in a casino.

Did you play the Wizard of Oz at the Beau? If so, have any luck? Did you see the slot ';You Bet your Life'; (Groucho Marx)? My sister in law is hooked on it.

Did you eat outside of the casino at all?

We are leaving next Thursday (Christmas morning) going down to Biloxi for 3 nights and then to New Orlens for 2 nights.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I see you are also a Georgia Peach :-)

    Thanks,

    Vicki

    Trip Report Dec. 11-14

    Day 2

We were up and over to Hard Rock for their $4.99 breakfast buffet. It was OK, nothing outstanding, but worth $5. We played slots there for awhile, then headed back to Beau. We played for a few hours, then it was time for girls to head home and for me to head for the spa.

I had booked 2 salon treatments. They told me that I could come early and enjoy all the spa amenities. It was good that the reservation people told me this. I arrived an hour early. They checked me in and sat me to wait. No mention of how early I was - did I want a tour - nothing. I went out and asked about sitting in a sauna. They said sure, but I felt like I was kind of on my own. They gave me a locker, but not any directions. I had to ask a patron where the sauna was. My treatments were OK, but not what I expected from Beau Rivage. I probably won%26#39;t go back to the spa.

By the time I was done with the spa, hubby had arrived. We checked out of Beau and into Hard Rock. We played slots at both places. We went to the seafood buffet that night (Fri.). It was very good. It is $9.99 from 4-6 and then goes to $21.99. We got in on the $10. The variety was amazing...shrimp, several kinds of crab, lobster claws, mussels, clams, fish, plus all the normal buffet fare. Great bargain. Slots and drinks until late.

    Day 3 to follow.

VBR - We mostly ate at the casinos (had several comps). We were told that McElhaney%26#39;s was very good. It is just across the bridge toward Ocean Springs and to the left. Several locals suggested it. We just ran out of time or energy. Hope to try it next time. Also have read about The Shed on this forum. Do a search for it - supposed to have fantastic BBQ.

Okay, I think I have read about McElheny before. We may have the time to try it out. If we do, I will post it here.

    Day 3

We were lazy Sat. morning. Finally got up and walked to Waffle House. Very good breakfast - great service. Decided to play at Beau. Had great fun on Monopoly...a few wins...mostly fun.

We then drove over to Ocean Springs. They have some cute shops in their downtown area. We drove along the coast. Very nice little side trip.

We stopped at Grand on way back into Biloxi. The slots there loved us. We had a lot of fun with several hot slots. I got 90 free spins on one (something about a leopard i think)! We ate lunch at the bar outside of LB%26#39;s Steakhouse. Good food. Great service.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at Hard Rock. Ups and downs on slots. Excellent bloody mary-s. Ate at the diner - blue plate special - very good. Again great service.

    Day 4 - Hope ya%26#39;ll aren%26#39;t too bored.

We were again lazy. Finally got up and packed. We ate at the buffet at HR for breakfast again. The made-to-order omelets were very good.

We packed and checked out then drove over to Island View at Gulfport. This is another very nice casino. I%26#39;d love to stay there, but so far it%26#39;s been too expensive. We had some free play that lasted us several hours. Great fun. But, alas, time to head home.

    Final Thoughts

Wonderful trip. Very few interruptions or problems. For the most part, wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. Biloxi seems to have something just opened or new building started each time we go (around every 2-3 months). Hopefully the market downturn won%26#39;t hurt this area too badly. Although, we did hear Margaritaville was on permanent hold. Too bad. The casinos and restaurants seemed fairly busy.

Thanks for your reports! Sounds like you had a great birthday weekend!

I went to the Beau%26#39;s Spa once and had a good experience but I think you have to be somewhat of a regular to get catered to. My mother in law was a regular therefore I got special treatment.

We love the HR especially in the evenings as they have great entertainment and people watching in addition to fun slots.

I do think Biloxi has gained a few new patrons as Vegas has lost a few especially from the Southeast part of the country with the way the economy is.

    Gulf Coast

I will be driving along the Gulf Coast next week. What is there to see that is scenic? Is the Jefferson Davis mansion nice to see? Is the lighthouse near Biloxi something that I can see? Anything along the Gulf Coast? Thank you.

    Gulf Coast

Drop down south from I-10 to Highway 90 for the scenic drive....remember Hurricane Katrina wiped out most of the area along the Gulf Shores area pretty much from Panama City or the Pensacola, FL area to the west of New Orleans.

    The Jefferson Davis mansion had extensive damage and know they have been working on it...here%26#39;s a link;

    http://www.beauvoir.org

    Here%26#39;s a link about the lighthouse;

    http://www.biloxilighthouse.com

We drive back to Kansas from Florida at least once each year along the Gulf Coast and although people have worked hard to rebuild, the damage from Hurricane Katrina is still visable to us since we know how beautiful it was and there were so many beautiful trees....but the rebuilding and regrowth of vegetation is better every time we stop by to check.

    Hope you enjoy the area!

    Gulf Coast

Katrina did quite a bit of damage to the Biloxi/Gulfport area, but the beach is open although traveling on the beach road with construction going on is slow. It did not affect the Gulf Shores/Pensacola area as Ivan did. This area has been recovered for several years.

Which part of the road would be the nicest to travel on and the least likely to be slow? Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

Highway 90 is the scenic drive but slower that I-10.

Is there alot of portions of that road that are closed or under construction due to the storm?

None of Highway 90 had construction when we went through last summer...most of the infrastructure is done, they are working on rebuilding homes and businesses, and you will notice the damage or nonexistence of the beautiful trees.

Thank you so much for your help. Did you happen to see Bay St. Louis or Ocean Springs? I think around Biloxi, I will go to Bouvier and see the Lighthouse and the Katrina Tree Sculptures and perhaps the Katrina Memorial. I would like to be able to walk on the beach somewhere.

You can walk on the beach anywhere. Was in the area a couple of weeks ago and they are resurfacing Hwy. 90. Very slow moving. No problems in Ocean Springs.

    Mississippi/Tennesse Road Trip

We are taking a road trip from Kansas City to Mobile Alabama for a cruise. We want to stop somewhere along the way but aren%26#39;t sure where we should stop. We%26#39;d like to go a little further than Memphis. We%26#39;ll have my 7 year old daughter with us so I want to make sure it%26#39;s someplace safe and interesting. Anyone have any ideas?

    I appreciate the help!!

    Mississippi/Tennesse Road Trip

How about here, Tupelo,Ms It%26#39;s where Elvis was born and is a nice quiet little town. It%26#39;s about a 2 hour drive south of Memphis.

    Mississippi/Tennesse Road Trip

What would you recommend we do while we are there? We%26#39;ll be there on January 1st, probably only for one day/night.

Well, being an Elvis fan, I would suggest going to his birthplace. The birthplace is in East Tupelo and much of the area has not changed from the early days.

You could go to the Tupelo Hardware store where he bought his first guitar. The guys at the store enjoy telling the Elvis story.

Make sure you stay on Gloster Street, that%26#39;s the main drag through town. There is plenty of places to eat along the street.

You could visit the automobile museum or the buffalo park. I have never been to those places but they seem quite popular.

Tupelo is a nice little town and is perfectly safe. Enjoy your trip to Mobile. We were in Mobile earlier this year on our road trip through the south. We visited the USS Alabama. If you have time before your cruise, I would suggest a look at that.

  • Trip Report Dec 17-19th

Just got home from Biloxi and NOLA....stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Biloxi. I was overwhelmingly surprised at how great everything was after reading some of the reviews. Easy check-in, very sweet young lady checked us in and made sure everything was as we wanted. Fantastic beds--they were awesome, definitely ';sleep like a rock'; beds. We had an oceanview room, which was ok, but don%26#39;t pay the extra. All we could see were shrimp boats. WARNING: Don%26#39;t try to drive up and down Beach Blvd. The construction was horrible on the roads, we gave up after about a 1/4 of a mile. Also, don%26#39;t eat the buffet at the Hard Rock. It was nasteeee! The food was dried up--at one end of a bar there were sliced limes and I promise you could break a window with one.

We strolled over to the Beau Rivage, and although the reviews were great of the place we didn%26#39;t linger. Was a bit on the too fancy-schmancy, slots were tight, and mostly a (very) older, richer crowd.

We enjoyed the Hard Rock, only a few very young people, mostly 30%26#39;s, 40%26#39;s. Good gaming and awesome hotel rooms. As others have said, they did warn at check in about the party snack bar and the fridge--don%26#39;t lift anything! We brought in can cokes and ice and were fine. Overall, it was a very relaxing time before we scooted on over to New Orleans. We will DEFINITELY go back!

    Trip Report Dec 17-19th

Good to hear that you%26#39;ll be back! Would say that HR is best for the younger crowds compared to the other casinos....but we%26#39;ve been going for years now and we usually don%26#39;t run into too many Biloxi travelers under 30.

Traveling on Rt. 90 between Gulfport and Biloxi

Is there any road construction between these 2 cities that would make driving difficult? Also is the buffet at Beau Rivage or Mary%26#39;s Mahoney%26#39;s better to eat at? thank you.

Traveling on Rt. 90 between Gulfport and Biloxi

Hwy. 90 is being resurfaced between Gulfport and Biloxi. I would not call the driving difficult, but can be slow at times. If you are not in a hurry, no problem. If you are take the interstate. Both Beau Rivage and Mary Mahoney%26#39;s are very good. If you are not really into buffets choose Mary Mahoney%26#39;s for a more relaxing meal.

Traveling on Rt. 90 between Gulfport and Biloxi

Thank you very much. I think that I will take the Interstate and then drive down to Biloxi and just drive in the local area. I may try Mary Mahoneys. Does the buffet at Beau Rivage have southern cooking type food?

The buffet at the Beau Rivage has all kinds of food, including Southern.

    Isle or Palace?

    Happy Holidays to all!!!

I%26#39;m considering a weekend trip to Biloxi for my b-day in March. This will be our first time visiting the area. The main purpose of the trip is to see Mike Epps perform @ IP.

The rates @ IP are too high....we%26#39;re doing a Disney cruise in May......so I need Biloxi to be affordable!

    The lowest rates I%26#39;ve found are $80/night @ Isle %26amp; $90/ night @ Palace.

We%26#39;re not big gamblers.......I%26#39;m more concerned about the food! LOL

    Which hotel would you choose?

    Thanks in advance!

    Isle or Palace?

We%26#39;ve stayed at both several times and not had a problem either place. The IP is probably nicer, but we%26#39;ve not had a bad room, they%26#39;ve been clean, good water pressure, etc. But for only $10 a night difference and if the performance is at the IP, I would stay at IP.

We%26#39;ve eaten both places too and probably the food is a little better at IP although the 2 top casinos (in my opinion) at the moment at the Beau and Harrah%26#39;s.

The Isle of Capri is nice, but we haven%26#39;t eaten there although we have in Kansas City and Vicksburg, and they weren%26#39;t anything special.

    Isle or Palace?

Thanks for the information. Let me clarify my original post to prevent confusion.

In my above post I%26#39;m referring to Palace Casino Resort for $90/night(currently rated #8 hotel) not the IP Casino Resort %26amp; Spa (currently rated #5 hotel) %26amp; $180/night.

So, please help me decide between Palace #8 %26amp; Isle #12.

    Thanks!!

We have stayed at the Isle several times and I posted a review from our last stay with pics.

Never stayed at the Palace but we didn%26#39;t care for the casino so we didn%26#39;t spend much time there. I prefer the Isle for its location and our rooms have always been decent.

If you%26#39;re going to the IP, you may just want to eat there. Their buffet is good and the High Tide is a good casual restaurant.

Oh so IP is double the cost per night? I didn%26#39;t mention in my first reply for you to get on the website for all the casinos and give them your email since we get email specials daily from the Gulf area and Vegas since we regularly visit both areas.

We are not too finicky and mostly just want cleanliness and safety in a hotel (we don%26#39;t use the spa, pool, or use room service so don%26#39;t care to pay more for a fancier hotel since we won%26#39;t use those services so don%26#39;t want to pay more per night)

It wouldn%26#39;t be a problem for me to stay again at the Palace if that was the lowest rate I could find per night. I can%26#39;t speak for you since I don%26#39;t know you, but that is what I would do if I needed to make that decision...hope you enjoy the hotel you choose.

    TopekaDucky,

Like you I don%26#39;t care much about the spa, pool or room service. I just NEED a clean room. That%26#39;s my #1 concern. As long as the room is clean then I can relax %26amp; make the most of my trip! I did visit all hotel sites %26amp; signed up for email list so hopefully I%26#39;ll receive a better offer.

    animlluvr,

Is Isle located within walking distance of other casinos?

Is Biloxi like Vegas---walkable strip of excitement or do you have to drive to each place?

Has anyone ever booked a hotel through gulfcoastorg? This website has the best rate for Isle, only $79/ night vs $109/$119 on Isle website.

Have stayed at the Isle, Palace and IP. If you are going to be there on a weeknight and not a weekend, IP usually sends out an email with a code for Sunday thru Thursday at anywhere from $29 to $49 per night. This month they did have one for weekends at $89 per night.

Palace web site usually shows a special for $49 to $89 per nights. Never see anything on the Isle of Capri site, but do quite a bit of radio advertising and frequently run specials.

Of the three, IP is best for rooms, food and casino. Palace rooms are alright (clean), food just okay and small casino. But I do not prefer the rooms over the Isle which I find ';tacky'; with their circus colors and decor. Casino at the Isle of Capri is spread out, larger than the Palace, but never have much luck there and I have found the employees to be rude.

You can%26#39;t compare Vegas and Biloxi, they are completely different experiences. Biloxi is more spread out and they do have a casino hopper that will get you to most of the casinos.

You will not be able to walk from the Palace and/or Isle to the IP.

The Palace kind of sits off on its own. The Isle, Beau, Hard Rock and Grand are located right on Beach Blvd.

The IP and Boomtown Casino are down on another street.

There%26#39;s also a casino in Gulfport which is about 20-30 minutes down the road. There%26#39;s another casino on Beach Blvd ...can%26#39;t remember the name...but it also sits on its own.

Biloxi is still struggling to come back from being blasted by Katrina.

Oh Boomtown (couldn%26#39;t remember the name of that one)...we ate the buffet there one time, and it was good BUT that was a few years ago so not sure currently how their food is but IP was still good.

I am a monthly visitor to Biloxi and have stayed at all the casinos a few times. Sounds like you are paying the weekend rates...fri-sat...about half that rate sun - thur. Some of those rates may include some meals. The overall nicest is the Beau Rivage. The casinos are not comfortable walking distances. There is a shuttle bus that runs every 15 min between all casinos (except Gulfport) for $1. Parking is no real problem at any place. Dinner buffet prices run $20-25. There are chain motels along I-10 at exit 46 and 50 that are only a short distance to casinos.

I%26#39;m like the other folks: not too keen on the Palace%26#39;s casino; but actually, I thought the rooms there are fairly nice, cozy, and reasonable in price. That%26#39;s been a while ago...maybe 3 years ago. It%26#39;s a small casino/hotel. Food is soso.

Isle of Capri is just o.k. to me....much larger....food is soso.

I know that the Imperial Palace had a delicious buffet when we ate there last. I would definitely recommend it for a meal. Also, had lots of luck there. Thought about actually staying there; but haven%26#39;t had the luck on our side for getting reasonable room prices there for some reason.

Our favorite hotel/casino is the Beau Rivage...love it! It%26#39;s generous with compas as we gamble there a good bit. Also, we definitely want to try the Isle View in Gulfport...we love their casino and buffet was pretty good as well.....they just aren%26#39;t all that generous with their room comps.

Trip Report, October 26-27, a Vegas Veteran in Tunica

So. After 16 visits to Las Vegas, and a couple of trips to Atlantic City, I made my first trip to Biloxi back in August (see the Biloxi board for my TR from that trip).

Meaning, the last major American gambling mecca I hadn%26#39;t visited was Tunica. Living in Alabama, only about a 4.5 hour drive away, I decided it was time for a quick one-night trip. I%26#39;d hoped to get a comped room from either HET or MGM/Mirage, but it wasn%26#39;t in the cards (ha ha!).

I checked out the maps of Tunica and decided I wanted to stay at the ';Casino Center'; -- home to the Gold Strike, Horseshoe, and Sheraton properties. I%26#39;m used to Vegas, used to casinos being within walking distance of each other. I tend to drink while I gamble, and obviously I don%26#39;t want to have to drive once I start drinking. So I figured staying at the Casino Center was my best bet. (Again, ha ha!).

(I%26#39;d also -- mistakenly -- believed that Bally%26#39;s would be an easy walk from Casino Center. It is not, at least not in the dark.)

Of the three CC properties, I got the best rate ($40) at the Horseshoe, so I booked it.

I arrived on Sunday afternoon, driving in on highway 61. I passed the entrance to Harrah%26#39;s and followed my directions to Casino Center.

Arriving in Tunica is (obviously) a very different experience than arriving in Vegas or even Biloxi. All the Tunica casinos are so spread-out, have so much land around them. Really a different experience for me.

Anyway, I pulled in to the parking lot and checked in at the Horseshoe. The parking lot was maybe half-full. The desk clerk got me checked in quickly, and I headed upstairs to my second floor room.

The room was a bit of a disappointment. Firstly, it was a LONG walk from the elevators. I counted, and I passed 48 rooms on the way to mine.

Secondly, the room had NO view out the window. I was looking directly at a roof-top air conditioning unit. And the window was small and tucked into a corner, making the whole room dark.

For a one night stay, not a big deal at all. If I%26#39;d been staying for a week or something, I would have asked to move. But it was just a ';Classic'; room, the cheapest of their room classifications. So you get what you pay for!

(And maybe I was spoiled by my one-night stay at the Grand Biloxi, when I was upgraded to a suite for free!)

But the furnishings in the room were nice and new, and the 42'; flat screen TV was a nice touch. Bathroom was tucked into a corner, clean and new, if a little small. But just me, so it was no problem.

I dropped my bag off in the room, found my players cards, and headed out to explore.

I made a lap through the Horseshoe and Sheraton casinos, just getting a feel for where things where, looking for my favorite slots, etc. Then, I headed into the Gold Strike. I played some video poker at the Stage Bar while I watched the end of the Giants/Steelers game on their projection screen TV.

Drink service was quick and friendly. And, prices were cheap -- when I stopped gambling and paid for my beers, a Heineken was only $3.25. That beer would have cost me $5 in Vegas.

My original plan had been to spend the entire afternoon/evening at the three Casino Center hotels. But after walking through them, I didn%26#39;t really see a great place for dinner. I wanted to be able to watch the World Series game 4 while I ate, and none of the three CC casinos seemed to have a sports bar/grill.

So I decided to jump in the car and head over to Harrah%26#39;s. As I said above, I don%26#39;t really like to drive once I%26#39;ve been drinking. But I%26#39;d spaced out the beers pretty well and didn%26#39;t have a buzz on.

I had to grab my car keys from the room, so another looooonnngg round trip walk down the Horseshoe%26#39;s second floor hallway. Then, back to the parking lot and my car.

I made a brief stop at Bally%26#39;s just to see what it was like. Looked like a big barn -- wooden floors, a restaurant called ';The Silo,'; etc. Didn%26#39;t stay long.

Found my way over to Harrah%26#39;s. This is the most ';Vegas-like'; casino in Tunica to me. First off, it%26#39;s HUGE! And secondly, the vibe just feels like Vegas.

It%26#39;s sort of odd to me that two of their three hotel towers are across the street, requiring a car or shuttle ride to reach the casino. That%26#39;s the main reason I didn%26#39;t want to stay at Harrah%26#39;s. But I certainly would if I could get a room in the Casino Tower.

Anyway, I headed in to the casino and was pleased to see they had my favorite table game, ';Rapid Roulette.'; Sort of a cross between a table game and an electronic game, I suppose.

I played RR for an hour or so, up and down with the winnings. Drink service was sporadic.

Eventually, though, I was out of my initial investment, so I left. It was just about time for first pitch of the baseball game, so I headed upstairs to ';Replays,'; Harrah%26#39;s sports bar. It%26#39;s upstairs next to the Paula Deen Buffet. It wasn%26#39;t very crowded, and I was able to easily get a seat at the bar.

I had a couple of beers before switching to water, along with a half-slab of ribs. They were tasty, with a tangy sauce and served with fries and coleslaw. I stayed through about half the game, then headed back to the Horseshoe.

Back at the Horseshoe, I sat in the (relative) quiet of the lobby for a few minutes so I could call my wife, check on the little one.

After that, I headed to the ';River Bar'; and watched the rest of the baseball game. Decided not to gamble, just paid for my beers instead. Import beers were $4 here, more expensive than Gold Strike, but still not bad.

Once the Phillies had finished demolishing the Rays (10-2!) I decided to play some slots. One of my favorite machines in Vegas is called ';Cash Time,'; and I found a 50 cent version of it at Horseshoe. I played for about an hour and a half, turning my initial $80 investment into $200 when all was said and done. Nice.

I headed upstairs around 12:30 AM and quickly crashed out for the night.

I slept very soundly in the super-comfy bed (and the very dark room helped too, I%26#39;m sure). Hotel was quiet until around 7:30-8:00, when I started to hear doors slamming.

I lounged around and watched SportsCenter on the flat screen TV for a bit before cleaning up and packing my bags. The room DID have a coffee maker, another welcome change from Vegas casinos.

I checked out via the TV remote and took my bags down to the car. I headed back over to Harrah%26#39;s, eager to try the Paula Deen Buffet.

Generally, I%26#39;m not a huge buffet fan. But when I do hit a buffet, I like to do so at breakfast time. For some reason, breakfast buffets appeal to me, not so much at lunch or dinner.

I had enough credits on my Total Rewards card to pay for the breakfast buffet, and I was quickly seated.

I made several trips to the various buffet station. Everything was fresh, well-labeled, and excellent. The hash brown casserole was especially good. There was a custom omelet station, various eggs and breakfast meats, delicious cheese biscuits, lots of fruit, and more I%26#39;m probably forgetting.

Coffee service from the waitresses was quick, my cup was never less than half full.

Stuffed from breakfast, I rolled back downstairs and had some more luck on a Cash Time machine, a $0.25 version this time. I was hoping the Rapid Roulette table would be open, but as it neared 11:00, it was still closed.

I needed to hit the road by 1:00 or so, and I still wanted to see some of Tunica%26#39;s other casinos. So I left Harrah%26#39;s (making a quick drive across the street to see the other two hotel towers) and headed down towards Sam%26#39;s Town. I passed cotton fields -- some being harvested -- as I made the 20 minute drive.

Sam%26#39;s Town is directly across the street from the Hollywood Casino and the Resorts Casino. I wanted to see all three, and I stopped at Sam%26#39;s Town first.

ST advertises that they have ';Vegas Action, Southern Style'; and it was a pretty Vegas-like casino. I haven%26#39;t actually been to the Sam%26#39;s Town in Vegas, so I can%26#39;t say how it compares, though others tell me it%26#39;s virtually identical to the Vegas location. They of course played up the wild west / frontier town theme.

I made a quick stop at the players club desk. Boyd Gaming, owner%26#39;s of Sam%26#39;s Town, now also owns the ';Station Casinos'; and ';Coast Casinos'; brands. They are combining all of their players clubs into the new ';B-Connected'; club. I stopped at the desk to get my new card, and the clerk pulled up my information and combined the points from the formerly separate accounts.

I browsed through the very large casino, playing a few slots here and there. Nice layout, easy to get around.

Then, I headed across the street to make quick stops at both Hollywood and Resorts. Hollywood had a theme based on its name, of course. Lots of vintage movie posters and other Hollywood memorabilia. Resorts was a smaller casino, and I made just a quick lap through the casino floor.

Nearing the end of my time in Tunica, I decided to check out the ';Fitz'; casino before I hit the road. I followed the signs to Fitz, again marveling at how far apart these casinos are from each other, and how much land they own. I parked at the Fitz%26#39;s covered parking deck, and went inside to check out the casino.

Pretty similar to the others, I didn%26#39;t spend a lot of time in Fitz. Unlike most of the other casinos, Fitz had slot machines on both the 1st and 2nd floors. Also on the 2nd floor was the buffett, which was closed for three days (Oct 27-29) for some quick renovations. There were also some nice views of the Mississippi River from a second-floor window.

After that, having stopped in all 9 Tunica casinos, it was time to go, and I hit the road for the long drive back to Birmingham.

    OVERALL THOUGHTS:

Tunica Resorts is an odd place, and it feels like what it is: a rural farming community with casinos dropped in just for the revenue they produce. There%26#39;s nothing much else in the community, save for a few smaller hotels next to acres and acres of cotton fields.

Originally, when the casinos were built, they were required by law to be on barges in the river. I know that post-hurricanes, some of these rules have been relaxed, and in Biloxi, there are now casinos built on land. Not sure if the rules were relaxed statewide, or just for Biloxi.

In any case, the requirement for casinos to be floating barges creates some odd situations, where the hotels and casinos are in separate buildings. In most, they are within walking distance. But for some -- like Bally%26#39;s, and like the Veranda and Terrace towers at Harrah%26#39;s -- you%26#39;d have to ride in a car or shuttle to get from your hotel room to the casino. I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d like staying somewhere like that.

Truthfully, I don%26#39;t know if I%26#39;d return to Tunica any time soon. I try and go to Vegas 3-4 times a year, and for a local fix, I think I%26#39;d return to Biloxi before Tunica. Biloxi is almost as close for me -- just about a 30 minute longer drive. And the beach location is more appealing to me as well.

The average age of the gamblers in Tunica is substantially older than Vegas or Biloxi. Not really a problem for me, but it means that the restaurants and lounges are maybe trying to appeal to a demographic I%26#39;m not a part of.

I also felt like I spent more time in the car in Tunica. Although the Biloxi casinos aren%26#39;t within walking distance of each other either (except Hard Rock/Beau Rivage and IP/Boomtown), they are generally closer to each other.

But I%26#39;m not sorry I went to Tunica -- I had a good time, and I%26#39;ve always wanted to see what it was like. Harrah%26#39;s was a gorgeous casino, easily my favorite of the nine. If I do return to Tunica and can get a decently-priced room in the casino tower, it would be my first choice. Both Replays and the Paula Deen Buffet were excellent.

    Thanks for reading!!

Trip Report, October 26-27, a Vegas Veteran in Tunica

Hi there...appreciate your comments and agree with you about Tunica. We drive through Biloxi and Tunica on our trip home from visiting our daughter every year so have a routine established!

Harrah%26#39;s was originally the Grand Casino, so they assumed the Terrace and Veranda hotels with the purchase of the casino (and hotel by the casino)

I was going to reply and let you know that Mississippi law required the casinos to be built on water (in this case the river) but see you added that at the end. The way the river meanders, I guess that%26#39;s why they decided to build the casinos in pods and it makes for an interesting arrangement.

I also agree that the average age of many gamblers in Tunica is older, and I also know that many of them are on bus tours that also take them to Branson...I won%26#39;t say more since my hair gives away the fact that I%26#39;m slowly creeping to be part of that age group! LOL

Glad you took time to post, and I%26#39;ll see you back in the Vegas forum :)

Trip Report, October 26-27, a Vegas Veteran in Tunica

Thanks for TR I am heading to Tunica in 4 days. I will use your advice. Only a short 2 days so all advice is appreciated. I will head to Biloxi after that. I agree about the coffee pots in rooms. I have to have my coffee and every hotel I checked in those cities came with coffee. Some of the rooms in Vegas are finally putting them in YEA.

    Wish me luck

    LIG

great TR. We had a lot of the same feelings. Wish there were some places to eat outside the casinos.

Enjoyed your trip report! You took me down memory lane of my first visit to Tunica. You are correct, Tunica is nothing like Vegas ... I love Vegas ...; however, I also love Tunica - it is great ';filler'; between my visits to Vegas. As a matter of fact, I will be heading back to the ';Vegas'; of the South in a few weeks.

Thank you very much for the report! :)

    Great report...thanks for sharing.

I%26#39;m a hour and a half north of you in Huntsville, so I%26#39;ve got about a 4 hr drive over to Tunica myself.

I just got comped from MGMirage for 2 free weeknights or 1 free weekend night as well as two free buffets. I%26#39;m staying at the Gold Strike Dec 12 %26amp; 13th!.

Thanks to all for your comments. Ducky, it was your recommendation that got me to try the Paula Deen Buffet, so thanks! Well worth it!

BamaJack, have fun in December. How%26#39;s the drive from Huntsville to Memphis/Tunica? Since you%26#39;re north of me, seems like it should be a bit shorter drive.

I wanted to stay at the Gold Strike this time, but every time I checked these dates, the website said they were sold out. Didn%26#39;t seem that crowded to me.

    ';BamaJack, have fun in December. How%26#39;s the drive from Huntsville to Memphis/Tunica? Since you%26#39;re north of me, seems like it should be a bit shorter drive.';

It%26#39;s a straight shot west on US Highway 72 to Memphis then down to Tunica.

Not too bad a drive, around 4 hrs or so, but its 4- lane most of the way.

Not bad at all. Took me almost exactly 4:15. Mostly US 78 / the future Interstate 22. Interstate-grade through most of Alabama and all of Mississippi.

Paul, great report. A car is very useful for transportation. I found the Interstaste Route 61 in Memphis to have terrific bar b que. Dixie.

Thanks for sharing. We also visit Vegas often but knew we couldn%26#39;t compare Tunica to the LV experience. We just returned from Tunica...getting ready to write the TR next.

    Tunica TR Dec 28-30, 2008

Will post TR as a reply.

We have become frequent visitors to Las Vegas. Airfares didn%26#39;t drop to Las Vegas so we decided to road trip it to Tunica from Central Illinois.

This was a mother/daughter road trip......

    The Drive, Hotel and Food

Drive there: Took about 8 hours from Central Illinois to Tunica. Long boring drive down I-57 through Illinois, a little more scenic once we hit the very southern tip. Only made about 3 quick stops on the way. Gas was about $1.69/gal in Illinois and as low as $1.24/gal in Arkansas. 480 miles one way.

Hotel: Got a great rate for Sunday and Monday night at Harrah%26#39;s - Terrace. Will post more details and pics in hotel review section. Lobby was really nice, checked in was fast, room was comparable to Bally%26#39;s north tower in Las Vegas. Parking was pretty close to the building. There was a pool and spa but we didn%26#39;t check that out. View from room wasn%26#39;t bad but we weren%26#39;t there for the view.

Food: We thought there would be some major food chains nearby to eat at. Near the outlet mall there is a Wendy%26#39;s, Sonic, Waffle House and KFC. There is plenty of land to put up a Bob Evan%26#39;s, IHOP, or some bigger restaurant that would serve food all day long. We were just a little surprised of the lack of food options. I%26#39;m sure there were decent places to eat in the other casinos but we didn%26#39;t check those out.

We did eat the Paula Deen buffet (at Harrah%26#39;s casino) for supper Sunday night and breakfast Tuesday morning. Can I just say it was delicious y%26#39;all!! Supper was a little under $18 each. Breakfast was around $9 each. For supper, it was less than a 10 min. wait from the time we stepped in line to pay and then seated. For breakfast, wait time was less than 5 minutes. (In Las Vegas, we have stood in line 45+ minutes for the Paris or Bellagio buffet.) The dining areas are set up like her house, with different rooms and furniture. There are several different food stations named after family members. For both meals, there wasn%26#39;t anything that we tried that we didn%26#39;t like. It does not taste like buffet food that has been sitting around or made it masses. It tastes like a meal you would have ordered at a sit down restaurant. Fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, several types of potatoes, hoe cakes, cornbread, biscuits, oysters, salad bar, shrimp, ham, meatloaf, mac n cheese, and more. The desserts were scrumptious too.

On Monday, we headed to the Oulet Mall and ate Sonic for breakfast . For lunch, we had comps at Sam%26#39;s Town so we gave their buffet a try. The buffet was okay. Mac n cheese was good, salad bar minimal, carved ham, potatoes, ribs, beef brisket, few desserts, etc. were okay. It was free so we figured we%26#39;d take what we could get.

Monday night (9:30 or 10:00ish) we were looking for a quick bite to eat. The Sports Bar in Harrah%26#39;s was a disaster. Hostess was almost non-existent, when we finally got seated, there was a couple next to us returning their food. We decided that was the sign to leave. We went to the casino floor snack bar and ordered a bite. The snack bar didn%26#39;t seem to be any more organized as people were returning their food there too.

Next up...shopping, gambling, and the drive home.

    Tunica TR Dec 28-30, 2008

    Shopping, gambling and drive home....

Shopping: We went to the Outlet Mall on Monday. Could have spent more time there than we did. Great after Christmas deals. Went to Totes, Nautica, Children%26#39;s Place, Osh Kosh, Old Navy, Lane Bryant, Kitchen Collection, Gap, Wilson%26#39;s Leather, and I%26#39;m sure others. There was a coupon in the casino newsletter located in Harrah%26#39;s lobby. We took that coupon to the Outlet Mall to get a booklet of coupons for the entire mall.

Gambling: As I mentioned, we stayed at Harrah%26#39;s. There are 3 areas of Harrah%26#39;s...Terrace, Veranda and then the one connected to the casino. There is a shuttle that runs 24/7 between these 3 places. There is also a shuttle that runs to the other Harrah%26#39;s properties (Sheraton and Horseshoe) but it has a specific time schedule. If you%26#39;ve been to the Gold Coast in Las Vegas, the layout of Harrah%26#39;s casino reminded us of that.

There isn%26#39;t much to look at when driving between the casinos. They are spread out in the middle of land. Ocassionally, we would pass a mini strip mall (about 5 businesses) but otherwise it%26#39;s highway and land.

We drove to Fitzgerald%26#39;s at night. It was like driving to a castle with castle like pillars and a bridge. We parked in the parking deck and walked in. Played quite awhile here on the Wizard of Oz machines. Met a funny couple from Wisconsin (someone that drove longer than us!).

Sheraton, Horseshoe and Gold Strike are grouped together. Very easy to walk between the three of these. Played in each. Liked the Horseshoe the best.

Bally%26#39;s is nothing like Bally%26#39;s in Las Vegas. It has a barn theme. Hmmmm....probably our least favorite.

Sam%26#39;s Town, Hollywood and The Resorts are close together but not really within walking distance of each other. Won some on the 97% payback dollar slots at Sam%26#39;s Town and then on a nickel machine. Liked Hollywood casino the best. Didn%26#39;t really care for The Resorts.

No big wins but was able to play awhile on our money at Sam%26#39;s Town and Hollywood.

Hollywood had the self serve soda/coffee machines. We liked that alot as it wasn%26#39;t often that we saw cocktail waitresses. Out of the 2 1/2 days there, only ordered 2 times from the cocktail waitress - and that was pop!

Will post some pics of the outside of the casinos.

Drive home: We decided to take I-55 home as it would be a little more scenic than I-57. This routed us through St. Louis and we stopped at Harrah%26#39;s in St. Charles, MO. Wow, has that casino changed. It was double in size from a year ago. We grabbed a bit to eat at the grill there - decent food and played a bit. Then back on the road for 3 1/2 more hours home. Once we hit Illinois - gas back up to $1.69-$1.79. Since this is the Tunia forum, I won%26#39;t go into detail about the St. Charles casino.

The thing I assumed was that Bally%26#39;s in Tunica was associated with HET. Nope.. and Fitzgerald%26#39;s isn%26#39;t associated with the Freemont St. Fitz either. Horseshoe is an HET property in Tunica but no in LV..I think I added about 4 more players cards to my stack!!

All in all, it was a fun trip. Would do it again IF gas prices stay down. Always wanted to go and can now say we did. Would be worth it just for the Paula Deen buffet and a quick get away.

Can%26#39;t compare it to Las Vegas at all. We go to Las Vegas for the sun, free stuff to look at, atmosphere, 24/7 food, and to get away.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

    Horseshoe trip report

Hubby and I visited Tunica the end of August for 3 nights. We stayed in a suite at Horseshoe compliments of Harrahs.

The rooms at Horseshoe are the best in Tunica IMO. We had a wonderfully comfortable King bed. The room had a sitting area with a sectional sofa which was almost as comfortable as the bed. Great for taking a break in the middle of the day. The bathroom had a large tub and shower with a marble vanity, tv in the bathroom also.

We ate at the Horseshoe buffet several times. Good as always. We had Sunday lunch at Paula Deen%26#39;s buffet at Harrahs. It is now the best buffet in Tunica. The food was fabulous with an exceelent selection. We had room service breakfast one morning and it was good as usual.

Gambling. We spent most of what we took. We had a few small wins to supplememt. It did seem to me the slots were tighter than ever at most places. We generally manage to leave Fitzgeralds ahead but not this time. Our best luck was at the Sheraton. All of my wins were there to include a 800.00 hit in a Double Diamond machine. I also did well on video poker at the Sheraton.

All in all it was a good trip. Tunica is a 9 hour drive for us so we don%26#39;t go often. I am looking forward to our next trip. Vegas in December so maybe Tunica again in the Spring.

    Horseshoe trip report

Enjoyed your report. Thank you very much for posting.

I really like the Horseshoe buffet but haven%26#39;t been back to Tunica since Paula Deen%26#39;s buffet opened at Harrahs.

Sounded like a fun trip, we%26#39;ll probably head that way in a few months.

    Horseshoe trip report

Glad you had a good time and sorry you didn%26#39;t get to go home with winnings :(

We also thought the Paula Deen buffet was great!!!

Thanks for the trip report, we%26#39;re leaving Friday and staying at the Grand. We were talking about trying the Horseshoe and Gold Strike which we%26#39;ve had decent luck at before.

Have comped meals (compliments of Harrahs) at Paula Deen, good to know it%26#39;s worth it!

Sorry, you didn%26#39;t win -- think the economy has something to do w/this, but thanks for posting!

Sounds like you had a good time. I like the Horseshoe also. We try to get down once a year. We include it in our vacation plans.

And Friday is vacation !!!!. Should be in Tunica Monday afternoon so can hardly wait.

Thanks for your post. My husband and I will be going to the Horshoe in a couple of weeks. We go to Tunica every year and love it, but we usually stay at the Grand which is now Harrah%26#39;s. We wanted to try something different, and I wondered if staying at a hotel with the casiono attached is that big of an advantage, since i REALLY LIKED Staying at Harrah%26#39;s. anyway, Im looking for ward to the trip and hopefully we may win something big for once. But even if we don%26#39;t we always have a great time when we go to tunica and we%26#39;ve been going about 4 times a year for almsot 5 years. I let yall know how we like the horseshoe, btw, we plan to stay at a different hotel everytime we go and decide whhich one is the best. Can%26#39;t wait!

gl to you, hope you have big winnings and a great time! I live vicariously through Trip Advisor, lol!

Ashevalley, I agree the Paula Dean buffet is the best in Tunica. The Buffet at the Horseshoe is very popular, was there on Friday ';seafood'; night and it was great with a large variety of choices, from lobstet tail, crablegs to authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I gained some weight. In fact after Friday night dinner I couldn%26#39;t sit down to play blackjack and went to bed instead. Dixie.

  • Beau Rivage upcoming trip

I am coming to Biloxi in two weeks and staying at the Beau Rivage. Are there any casinos better than others in the area? And also more budget minded places to eat?

    Thanks

    Beau Rivage upcoming trip

You have picked the nicest hotel of all in the area and also has nice dining options...have a great time!

    Beau Rivage upcoming trip

Other local eateries: Schooners (breakfast-lunch only); Blowfly toward Gulfport; McLeroys across bridge in Ocean Springs; Mary Mahoney (fantastic but high $$$).

You have picked the best one in the area, it is first class. The Casino, rooms %26amp; restaurants can not be beat in my opinion. If you gamble they are also generous with comps, be sure to get a players card and use it!

We are not high rollers but give them a minimum of four to five hours of play a day and pay for nothing but tips. My wife plays quarter slots (max pull) and a few dollar slots and we are now even starting to get free airfare to and from Biloxi.

Good luck and hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks so much for the responces!! We are not high rollers either but definitely enjoy playing!!! I am really looking forward to the trip!!!!

    First Timer

I am planning a 2 day trip thanks to Harrah%26#39;s from Ft. lauderdale to Biloxi early next month. RT airfare and 2 nights at The Grand Casino. Anyone take advantage of this offer?

I checked out the hotel reviews which seem pretty good-casino not so good. Anyone been there lately?

Is there another harrah%26#39;s property in the area?

I appreciate any and all inforrmation as this is my first trip to Gulfport/Biloxi

    First Timer

You are going to find the Biloxi area still devastated from Hur. Katrina 3 years ago. Not too much has been rebuilt. Insurance and code problems. Casinos have purchased much of the vacant land for future expansion. Much empty spaces where homes and businesses existed before. Casinos operating. Harrah%26#39;s Grand along beach is being rebuilt...scheduled opening 2010, but slowdown as made that doubtful. Grand is operating out of the converted convention center and hotel. Casino small but quaint. Go farther down beach about 1 mile to BeauRivage, IP, and Hard Rock operating at full speed. There is a trolley ride for $1.25.

If you are a Vegas junkie...this venture will not even rate 2nd class! Just take it for what it is worth and enjoy the trip. Keep in mind they are rebuilding and it will take time.

    First Timer

Ouch, tiller-tom! You paint a rather gloomy and dire picture of our Coast. We aren%26#39;t as desolate as he has depicted....but he is entitled to his opinion. True, Biloxi/Gulfport is not a Vegas; but it is a great get-away. It%26#39;s a fishing and port area. You can catch a boat out to Ship Island from Gulfport. Ship Island has the pretty greenish/blue waters on the Gulf side of it.

True there are, in places, empty lots along Beach Blvd. that still exsist; but it%26#39;s still an interesting area. The casino where you are staying is on the smallish side; but nice enough. Do visit all the casinos: Beau Rivage, Hard Rock, Isle of Capri, Imperial Palace, Palace, Boomtown, Treasure Bay, Island View in Gulfport (few miles to the west). Gulfport and Biloxi are like twin cities.

They are building several really tall condo buildings. Read up on this Biloxi thread about restaurants in Biloxi and Gulfport. Just do some researching on line and you will get some ideas.

    Vegasgrandpa,

I just came back from a 4 day visit to Biloxi. Left a 3K winner! You cant beat Biloxi for friendliness and professialism of the staff. Had a first rate experience. The staff all go out of their way to make sure you are happy. Everyone has a quick hello. Great experience. Dixie.

    Vegas Grandpa ...

We used to go to Vegas three times a year until we tried the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, no more Vegas for us. The rooms and Casino are great, as nice and better than several in Vegas.

We go to gamble and enjoy good food and found one stop shopping in this place. They are very generous with comps including junkets from Houston (air fare).

We never did run the strip in Vegas so we feel that we are not missing anything. You will enjoy your stay, the people are friendly and service is great.

    Good Luck.

The Grand was still very small when we were last there 3/08. It is on the casino shuttle line so you can check out the other casinos. Biloxi rocks, we are headed back for the month of March, can%26#39;t wait. Check out the oyster PoBoys at Schooners, awesome!

Is Biloxi still devastated from Katrina? Or has most of it been rebuilt?

Dap, read my other post in this thread. It%26#39;s coming back. Like I said before, there still are several empty lots along Beach Blvd. where the big beautiful homes used to be. However, there are alot of new things being built....looks like there will be alot of tall condo buildings along Beach Blvd. It%26#39;s not by any means desolate anymore.

If you are coming this way, just keep in mind that it is totally different from Vegas. It%26#39;s just a peaceful little beach town and fishing village with several nice casinos both on the Beach Blvd. and along the back Bay area. There is a shuttle that goes between the ones in Biloxi. There is also a nice casino in Gulfport(Biloxi%26#39;s sister city), Island View or Isle View...never can remember which it is...lol.

Our Miss. Coast is coming along pretty nicely.

I was just to Biloxi/Gulfport last week. It was very sad. Alot of Beach Blvd was very barren, but like the other person said, there is Beau Rivage and Hard Rock that are open and in full swing. Also Beauvoir is open to the public and the sand beach is still beautiful. But I must say that I was saddened to see the damage caused by the storm. It seems that many places are trying to rebuild.

I guess my seeing it about 4 months after Katrina hit gives me a different perspective on what the Miss. Coast looks like now in comparison. I have only seen video, news reports, etc.,of the beach right after it was hit .....no one can begin to imagine what it looked like then unless you lived there, had property there, or relatives that lived there. Our Miss. Coast has come leaps and bounds since. ....and the casinos helped a kajillion times over.

As far as I am concerned, it%26#39;s in great shape and will get even better. I do feel, though, for little Bay St. Louis area on West of Gulfport.....it slow going for them. However, they are chugging along and will make it eventually.

This was the first time that I was ever in Mississippi so I have not seen anything to compare the coast to, either before or after Katrina, although I have heard that Beach Blvd had been lined with beautiful homes and big trees. I know what our beaches look like and they are packed with things. There was not much on either side of the Beauvoir. Rt. 49 was packed with things. I saw that there was a mall in Biloxi, but it looked new. I heard a lot about the damage in New Orleans, but this damage was not publicized enough in my opinion. Regardless it is still a beautiful area and I was glad to visit it and bring some tourist dollars into the area. The Mississippi welcome center was very kind and made me feel very welcome

    Trip Report 11/26 - 11/29

We just got back from our first trip to Tunica. We stayed at the Harrah%26#39;s Terrace on a junket.

Hotel - room was nice and employees were friendly. Would have preferred to stay at a hotel attached to the casino but the shuttles were prompt and drivers extremely nice. My husband and sister got hit up for money in the parking lot by a family. They claimed the wife%26#39;s purse was stolen and they needed to get money to get home but we thought we saw the same car cruising the parking lot yesterday. They alerted security as to what the family was doing. There were 2 small children in the car so the parents either taught the kids that there are still nice people in the world or there are suckers (my husband and sister each gave them 20 dollars, it was Thanksgiving).

Gambling - machines were tight, no big wins or even close, nothing over 200.00. I played pennies, nickels, quarters and dollars. I should have played more on the tables. Employees were also very friendly. It does get very crowded at night.

Food - ate at Paula Deen%26#39;s several times. It was good, nothing spectacular. There aren%26#39;t many dining options. Also at at Harrah%26#39;s sports bar, it was good. I must say the lines at Horsehoes buffet were always long.

Attractions - nothing to do but gamble. We rented a car and went to Graceland and Beale Street. That was fun as none had ever been.

I had a good time but I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d go out of my way to go again. Maybe if on a road trip and passing through. But, the Harrah%26#39;s junkets are a good deal and give you cheap options to try new places.

    Trip Report 11/26 - 11/29

Thanks for your report! We are looking forward to visiting Beale Street next week.

    Trip Report 11/26 - 11/29

Thanks for sharing your Tunica experience. We like staying at the Sheraton. I%26#39;ve never gone on a junket to Tunica but may in the future cause it%26#39;s a long drive from SA.

Nannerho, thanks for the report. I agree not much to do in Tunica except gamble. But I think the Blackjack is worthwhile. What about shuttle service from Harrah%26#39;s to Sam%26#39;s Town?

    Dixie.

There isn%26#39;t any shuttle service from Harrah%26#39;s to Sam%26#39;s town. Harrah%26#39;s provides a shuttle to the Horseshoe and Sheraton only. They are next to each other along with the Gold Strike. It runs every half hour but make sure you pay attention to when it stops running so you don%26#39;t get stuck. There wasn%26#39;t any cab service that I was aware of.

It makes sense to rent a car since all of the casinos are very spread out.

    Hampton Inn Corinth very good

Just returned from a trip to Corinth area and wanted to report that the Hampton Inn was a nice place to stay -- very well kept up, helpful staff, plush bed linens and towels, free soda/bottled water/apples/cookies/coffee/tea/hot choc/popcorn, and a complimentary breakfast bar (carbs, coffee, fruit, juice, yogurt and hot entree -- nothing too fancy here but entirely adequate and I was just happy to get the nice cold Yoplait :-) All in all, this is one of the better hotels of its class that I%26#39;ve stayed in recently.

    Chicago Steakhouse at GoldStrike?

Has anybody eaten there? Trying to book a large group for business purposes and looking for a nice dinner--any suggestions for Tunica if this is a bomb?

    Second trip... bringing wife... questions...

I first went to Biloxi via Skybus last February. I liked it so much, I am now planning a return trip with my wife. I, like many others, have basically given up on Las Vegas in favor of regional destinations.

    Accordingly, I have some questions:

    1. We will be staying at the Hard Rock(which I loved the last time), can anyone opine on the SPA there? I will be surprising my wife with some kind of treatment.

    2. We will be driving to Biloxi from NOLA, is there anything along the way we should stop and see? After Biloxi we will be going back to NOLA for a few days so the inverse question applies as well.

    3. Considering we will have a rental car, is there anything in Biloxi we should do or view while we are there?

    4. Is there any nice shopping centers or outlets reasonably close to the Hard Rock?

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to returning.

    Second trip... bringing wife... questions...

    1. Have heard good things about the SPA at Hard Rock and the Beau. Don%26#39;t think she will be disappointed.

    2. Not a lot in between Biloxi and NOLA. It%26#39;s only about 90 miles, but there are two other casinos on the way in the Bay Saint Louis area. Both off the beaten path (not near each other). We needed our GPS or don%26#39;t think we would have found one.

    3. Visit the other casinos, walk on the beach.

    4. Used to be a nice Mall in Gulfport pre Katrina, but believe only a few stores have reopened but still rebuilding. Go East of the Hard Rock, cross the new Ocean Springs/Biloxi bridge into Ocean Springs. Few quaint little stores and antique shops there. Only a ten to fifteen minute drive from the Hard Rock.

    Enjoy your stay.

    Second trip... bringing wife... questions...

I%26#39;ve only done the Spa at the Beau but I hear the one at Hard Rock is great! There is the Edgewater Mall in Biloxi on Hwy 90, west of the Hard Rock. It has alot of stores, mainly chain stores. We also have the Prime Outlets in Gulfport. They are right off I-10 on Hwy 49. You could either go I-110 to I-10 W and get off on Hwy 49 exit or you go could take the scenic route down Hwy 90 and hit Hwy 49 and go North.

I also like the little shops in Ocean Springs that was suggested.

If you%26#39;re going in the warmer months, you could take the boat out to Ship Island. The water out there is much better than what you see driving along the beach. The boat ride is nice, and you usually see dolphins along the way. Ft. Massachusetts is out there too, if you are in to historical stuff.

There is also an outlet mall in Gulfport close to the airport (about a 30 minute drive from HR) that has a good number of outlet stores including a Coach outlet with excellent prices. My BFF and I stop every trip and are able to buy several coach purses for the price of one here in Atlanta. If your wife is a shopper, I think she may enjoy the outlets.

  • biloxi..anything besides casinos?

4 mid thirties guys going condo route in biloxi/gulfport. Would we be better off at the Legacy towers or a place off downtown w/ no amenities. Also is there anything besides the casino scene? Rent a boat? canoe? Natural area? Local music scene? Late night? We have a vehicle so can go wherever and would prefer to eat/drink locally or at least non-casino the entire time. Any info is appreciated.

    biloxi..anything besides casinos?

I don%26#39;t know about the accomodations. As far as something to do, you could check the schedule for the boat to Ship Island. I don%26#39;t know what time of year you%26#39;re going, but late spring thru fall is a good time to go out there. You can fish, swim, picnic. Of course, it%26#39;s better in the warmer months. The water out there is much prettier than what you see driving along the beach. If you want non-casino places to eat, your best bet is back up on 49, leaving Gulfport, headed north. The casinos will have more as far as ';the music scene'; goes.

    biloxi..anything besides casinos?

I sound like an advertisement; but we love the food at Lookout 49 on Hwy. 49, Gulfport, on the north side of I-10 intersection a couple of miles on the left as you are going North. It%26#39;s in an old remodeled white building with royal blue trim that is next to a big box type of store. The food is wonderful there....cajun and creole type of cooking.

We also like the Salute Italian Restaurant on Beach Blvd. in Gulfport. Both of these restaurants are owned by the same people....great food at both of them.

There%26#39;s also Mary Mahoneys%26#39; caddy-corner accross from the Bellagio in Biloxi...it%26#39;s pretty good and well-known. The Bellagio has a Prime steak restaurant that is really nice...great food. Hard Rock next door has a Ruth%26#39;s Chris Steak House which I hear is good. Also, there%26#39;s an Emeril%26#39;s at Island View in Gulfport.

Most of the music scene is in the casino bars in Biloxi/Gulfport.

Don%26#39;t know anything about the condo situation. I know the Legacy Condos are newish and look really nice from the outside. Guess it all depends on how much you guys want to spend.

This Biloxi board is on the smallish side but has a good bit of info from people....just read up on it a little more.

Thanks for the info. We are going down at the end of Jan. and debating on 2 or 3 days, or a day in New Orleans. thanks again everybody

New Orleans is more of a party town full of history. It also has LOADS of good restaurants.

Our Biloxi/Gulfport are fishing and shrimping villages with casinos. It has it%26#39;s share of partying too; but has a more peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.

I always enjoyed going out on a charter fishing boats with my folks as a kid and on a private little boat with a good friend of the family. I need to do that again sometime...miss it. That would probably be a fun outdoors activity for you and your guy friends.

dawg - don%26#39;t know if y%26#39;all are golfers, but there are some good courses nearby. The best is Fallen Oak, but you have to stay at Beau Rivage to play it (or at least that was the rule last year). Fishing can also be fun - it%26#39;s always fun just to be out on the Gulf. Have fun!

    The Trust B&B

We are planning a trip to Bay St. Louis to visit our middle son, a volunteer for Hands On Gulf Coast. Has anyone visited the Trust Bed and Breakfast? I have only found one review. Thanks! We are leaving tomorrow.

If we stay there, I promise to post a review with pictures.

    Hotel for one night

We may be coming threw here on the way to Flordia in June or July. I will need to rooms since there is 8 of us. We do not need anywhere fancy just some place really safe to stay. ive never been to the area so i am clueless!

    Hotel for one night

My dh and I really like Diamond Jacks in Vicksburg. I don%26#39;t know what the Friday, Saturday rates are but, if you are there Sun-Thurs, the rates are very reasonable. The rooms are bright and cheerful. It is a casino and therefore there is plenty of security. It is about 2 blocks north of I20 on Washington.

    Hotel for one night

If all you want is safe, and no tourist attractions, then I would say the casinos are a good bet if you can get the rate.

They are mostly at exit 1A along the River.

At exit 4 is a Hampton Inn near the entrance to the National Military Park. There is also something else there...eithr a Holiday Inn Express or Comfort Suites? Anyway, exit 4 (Clay Street.) A couple new ones on East Clay are OK if they are on the West side of the road, but those on the East side of the road are questionable.

Also I would personally avoid the ones at exit 1C (Pemberton Blvd.)

When you get ready to book, come back and post where you found good rates, and we can help from there.

The River is pretty at night. Vicksburg makes a nice stop.

    Veranda or Terrace - Harrahs

Which is the best area to stay?

    Veranda or Terrace - Harrahs

Ms. request a room in the casino tower. You will save yourself a van ride and be able to take the elevator down to the lobby and a short walk will put you in the casino. Dixie.

    speed trap

Be very careful on Project Rd in Wiggins as the Wiggins police use this area as a speed trap to improve revenue for the city.

TR Dec 4 - 7, Tunica road trip

My husband and I wanted to get away for a few days and we always enjoy casinos. Harrah%26#39;s comped two nights at the Veranda hotel (sister property near the casino). We left Dallas and made the long drive in approx 7.5 hours (we stopped for lunch in Benton) and we also took the longer way through what we thought might be the scenic route (49 through Helena) which was NOT worth the trip - live and learn.

So we arrived after dark and we were surprised to see how far apart everything is, even after reading about it, since we thought that maybe you could see down the road to the other casinos. Only the Gold Strike is really visible from any distance. Tunica does have the route very well marked, so as long as you pay attention, you can find your way around.

The Veranda was somewhat nice, with a few flaws that I%26#39;ll post so everyone else can know what to expect. The lobby is fine, and self parking is reasonably close by. Cars were stacked up at valet, so we just parked and walked in. Check in was fine, only three or four people in line. Room on third floor is very pretty - large with nice furnishings, 45 inch plasma TV, new linens and a view of the golf course and lake. Bathroom has new vanity but old toilet and tub. Water pressure and temp good but this water is extremely soft (slick) and slightly brown tinged. Use bottled water (not provided) for brushing your teeth. Toiletries are generic but OK. Wonderful perk - a small fridge under the TV.

Here are the nit-picks: King bed very hard (and I like firm) and only had three small pillows. We called down and they said we could only have one more due to the supply being short. No pen or paper in room (small thing, unless of course, you need a pen). Coffee/snack bar was not always manned and one morning, the coffee maker was broken. No safe.

The room was comped, so all in all, a good value. I wouldn%26#39;t come to this town without a car, though. We drove over to Harrah%26#39;s and it was very crowded. They were having a giveaway of a box of dishes and there were 100s of people in line for it. We dropped $200 in slots in about an a hour, and did not see anyone winning. We were planning to visit the Paula Deen buffet, but were not in the mood to stand in line after our long drive. Table minimums were $10 or $15, so we went to the other Casino center (Horseshoe, Sheraton and Gold Strike) about four miles down the road. Parking was better here (surprising for a Friday). Sheraton was not busy, so we played 3 card poker for 1.5 hours but lost the $200 buyin. I never found the video poker machines with a good pay table, so we moved on. We walked across the parking lot and through Horseshoe - definitely the nicest hotel and similar to the one in Shreveport. Starbucks in the hotel lobby was crowded. The best selection of slots was here, but we did not win at all.

We could not find a coffee shop in this town - not in the casinos we visited, or on the road (no Dennys, IHOP, Red Robin or similar). There are snack bars and steak houses, and of course, the buffets. We didn%26#39;t want a heavy meal, so we had to make do with a mediocre sandwich at the Horseshoe snack bar. We lost another $200 on slots and called it a night. We never made it to the Gold Strike, which is right next door.

The next morning, we drove to the casino ';resort'; area and tried Sams Town (we saw that they had a Smokey Joes Cafe in the Tunica guide). We love Sam%26#39;s Town Las Vegas but were disappointed here. Not in the casino look and feel (wonderful) but the dealers were not friendly and Smoky Joes didn%26#39;t open until 5pm, so they only had the obligatory buffet and snack bar. Jeez. No wins on slots (did see one guy win a triple/triple/red seven for $900, but that was it). I%26#39;ll bet there were less than 150 people in the casino on a Saturday morning at 11am. We lost another $200 on 3 card poker in an hour and decided to drive to Memphis for ribs. Drove by Graceland to see the Xmas decor, then ate at the Rendevouz and walked around Beale St. (deserted except for BB Kings) and watched the duck parade at the Peabody (too crowded for much of a view, but cute). The riverfront by Mud Island has beautiful views - worth a stop. It was cold, so we decided to head back and give it one more shot. We decided on the Sheraton, since it wasn%26#39;t crowded and they had $5 tables. We liked the dealers there. Everone at the Sheraton was friendly and upbeat, which we didn%26#39;t encounter anywhere else (other casinos and out hotel seemed understaffed). $200 lasted four hours this time and we had fun. We watched the FL/Alabama and OU/MO football games while we played. DH hit a 3oak for $400+ at one point, so that kept us going.

Got up Sunday and drove past Memphis before we stopped for breakfast. It was a long drive home. Since we live only three hours from Shreveport and 1.5 hours from Choctaw Durant, I wouldn%26#39;t make this trip again unless I flew to Memphis, rented a car and stayed at the Sheraton or Horseshoe.

TR Dec 4 - 7, Tunica road trip

Thanks for sharing your Tunica experience. We stayed at the Sheraton %26amp; loved it there. As you said the staff is friendly %26amp; they have a Cinnabon which DH just loves. The rooms are all suites with jacuzzi in the room %26amp; the beds were very comfy.

TR Dec 4 - 7, Tunica road trip

Hey Corgimom...glad to see you made it back home ok and wondered how you liked your trip. Tunica is definately different than Vegas, and I%26#39;m glad you also got to spend some time in Memphis!

Hi Ducky, Hope I wasn%26#39;t too much of a downer on the TR. I was just hoping for better luck, nicer weather, better food. There wasn%26#39;t really anything wrong with the Veranda, or for Tunica, for that matter, other than it didn%26#39;t have a nice vibe to it - not too many cheerful people or staff. And we had trouble finding any place decent to eat without choosing a steakhouse (our comps were later in the trip and we wanted to go to Memphis)

We should have stuck it out in the Paula D buffet line. Other than the steakhouses, it looked to be the best bet in town.

It is hard to drive that far and not win anything. At least the room was free.

It seems to me that people and hotel staff in Las Vegas are just so much friendlier and cheerful. I wonder why? Plus I may have just been in a bad mood anyway. Hormones!

I should have known to just throw in the towel when I stuck a $50 in a penny slot to kill time and it did not give me ONE bonus round. I%26#39;m not too much of a penny player, but I do like that Reels O%26#39;Dublin slot. Well! Vegas has made me quite the spoiled little gambler :)

Maybe it would have been more fun on a girls weekend, but my husband is a picky traveler and I was worried that he wouldn%26#39;t have a good time in MS. We usually get really nice rooms in Vegas and a sometimes a little VIP treatment.

When I travel by myself, I%26#39;m much easier to please.

I think you were realistic...it is just not Vegas. I really think you would have loved Paula%26#39;s buffet, but it shouldn%26#39;t be the only reason to visit Tunica I guess. LOL

We are leaving for Vegas this evening so will look for that Dublin machine and play it for you :)

Last week i took a 3 night junket from Tampa Florida to Tunica Operated by harrah%26#39;s using Aliegent Airlines. Flawless. First day i put 2 quarters in a ten X Play machine on the second pull I hit for $1000. The next day I won 900 on a triple diamond machine. Luck with the slots and the good blackjack games convinced me to drive up to Tunica again! I leave tomorrow. Dixie.
