Road trip, Elizabeth, Tunica, NOLA, Biloxi, FL

THE ROAD TRIP. I want to thank everyone who helped with suggestions, we had a GREAT time well mostly, this is really long but I broke it into parts so you can skip some of it if you find it boring.

ELIZABETH IN: Horseshoe casino. Hotel was very nice (except the iron that stained my friend’s new outfit). Great beds

Casino hot and smoky. The cliental a bit to be desired. Our first sighting on the elevator was a rather large woman wearing sweats a huge rip in the back and when she turned around no bra and her breasts hung to her belly. UGH Lost big time .

Food: We tried to find a quite spot for dinner no luck but did have a good burger St Louis style. Breakfast in the hotel cafeteria/ café was good.

Picked up my friend at the Nashville Airport WHAT A MISTAKE. They had some big game going on and it was bumper to bumper traffic coming and going to the airport. And then it got worse. After we picked her up we got over taken by a pack (10 or 12) of scary tricked out cars all with tinted windows. They came flying up behind us and surrounded us flashers going and then they came to almost a dead stop on the expressway and started yelling back and forth between the cars. This continued for at least an hour. They would pull over and we would pass them and then about 15 minutes later they would zoom up again. My one friend kept saying lets call 911. We were terrified. We didn’t want to get off or pull over so we just kept on. Not a pleasant drive. We thought it might be some type of gang initiation or something.

We barely made it to Interstate BBQ before closing YUM thanks Karen TN. I would suggest this to any one, don’t let the exterior fool you. We shared ribs, turkey, pulled pork, BBQ spaghetti, slaw and beans for a mere 10 each. Liked it all except the spag.

TUNICA: MS: Horseshoe casino

Hotel very nice great beds but beware the bathtub it was so slippery I almost fell and so did my short friends, nothing for them to grab onto and put soap on the toes YIKES

Employees very laid back I came up to the room and the maid was cleaning and she asked could I use my blood pressure machine to check her pressure. I roared you would never get asked that in the north.

Casinos Horseshoe pretty but we liked playing at the Sheraton much better the Gold Strike we lost quickly and moved on. I hit some decent Davinci Diamonds but nothing else .

My girlfriend did get tapped on the shoulder and was asked Mrs W. did you want free buffets and she also got tapped on the shoulder and asked buffet or café? Well the last day we wiped out the café $20 goes along way. We had mud pie, key lime, lemon meringue, 3 snickers, 2 juices, and just to be healthy 2 granola cereal boxes. When she asked did we want the milk for the granola we split a gut laughing. I can truthfully say that $20 has never bought so much in any other casino I have been in.

Food: Boy did we eat the buffets Horseshoe was running a special play for ? hour and get a free buffet, great fruit and the lemon poppy seed muffins were some of the best I have eaten.. They were running a special at Sheraton buffet for $4 or if you were a senior earn 20 pts and free, what a super buffet I gorged on fresh spinach and lima beans and the turkey and potatoes were great also.

Other: People were so friendly after that scare on the Road. The Color change was starting and it was beautiful.

NEW ORLEANS, LA

Hilton Hotel: I know a lot of people complained about this hotel and I was a bit apprehensive, but we had a great room, comfy beds and very nice staff. The only thing is they were full size beds not Queen a bit odd in this day and age.

Casino: I thought this was one of the prettiest we had seen. We didn’t gamble a lot because of sight seeing but I enjoyed this and will definitely return. My friend is not much of a drinker or gambler after the Hurricane she had wine at Harrahs. She was really doing well at Deuces wild so I tried to talk her into playing 5 quarters and she didn’t want to. I put $10 in and said bet 5 at a time. She started winning she got up to $30 and said this is your money and I said yes but I will split anything over the 30. Well she got up to 60 and I said perhaps time to cash out. I was watching and after another wine she was now throwing Deuces away LOL. NO NO she said I am having fun well OK. Needless to say when she got down to 30 I cashed out. We giggled all the way back to the hotel

Food: Beignets at café DuMond, died and went to heaven good We also had a meal at Gorden Biersch ( ?) I had read good and bad well…… It was both. We sat down and said we were starved we ordered a salad and a pizza to split and my other friend ordered a corned beef. About 40 minutes later we got the salad with the other stuff. I wasn’t happy the pizza had fresh baby spinach sautéed in garlic and artichokes, roma tomatoes it was marvelous but my friend CB was cold and really nasty. The service was really bad I can’t remember the last time I left a 10% tip but I did.

Other: We had Hurricanes at Pat Obriens and walked Bourbon Street. It was sad no one around. I hope they can recover. The cab driver who picked us up was Cajun and was great we had a lot of fun . I was the only one who could understand him and even then only every 3rd word.

Biloxi MS

Hotel Beau Rivage: This is a beautiful hotel but sad also. We wanted to find a nice place to eat in the hotel. Olives is closed permanently. The BBQ and Steak house were closed we ate in the coffee shop the food was good but I was ready for a nice dinner. Tired of those darn buffets. The breakfast buffet at the Beau was not very good. But it was free so eat it up.

Gambling: We took a cab down to Harrahs and stayed only about an hour it was small %26amp; hot we didn’t care for it at all. The Hard Rock was pretty did ok gambling and again the darn buffet special sign up for new members. Nothing special. I did good at the Beau, I finally started hitting and won a little back at video poker hit 4OAKS a few times but still waiting for the Royal. I did find Pickem poker but couldn’t do well at that.

Other: Our cabdriver was very southern and he was talking about how it took him 3 weeks because every time he went to get his permit the police would get a call for a murder or a burglary and they would shut the office (which was only open 2 days a week for 2 hours a day) and how the last time he told the dispatcher to hold to the calls . My girlfriends couldn’t make out what he was saying except murder and permit. LOL

Overall. We had a great time. We made good time 61/2 hours from Tunica to NOLA and about the same from Biloxi to Summerfield Fl. We all lost money ugh. I am sick of buffets I rarely eat then even in Vegas but oh well. I would drive it again, but I would take more time and plan more non gambling things.I had forgotten how friendly and so much slower paced the South is. I have a great friend who shared the driving and one who went along for the ride she is 80 and boy do I admire her. We took a few cabs and tipped a few bell men because of her but other than that … Man when I get to be that age if I can do ? of what she does.

Side note the reason for the trip was my other friends 60th bday . 7 women in a 2 bedroom Condo and fun was had by all. THE WRAP : 2,100 hundred miles, 10 days. Only $380 for gas and hotel. Not bad.I never thought I would say this I am gambled out We didn’t even stop at the Hard Rock Tampa on the way home.
