Rookie Questions

Hello everyone, I have been to Vegas a couple times but this is my first time going to Biloxi. I received an offer for free air fare, airport shuttle and room at Beau Rivage (don%26#39;t ask me why, I am a low roller!). The only thing I know about this hotel is what I saw on their website. I am wanting to get general information about the area. Is this hotel near other attractions or places to eat (I don%26#39;t eat fancy stuff, mostly fast food/diners)? I was also wondering about transportation will I need to get a car to get around or do they have a nice public transit? I would also like suggestions on other things to do while in Biloxi. Thanks for any info.

Rookie Questions

The Beau is the finest property and sits right by the Gulf. We always have our own car since we stop one night in Biloxi coming home from FL.

They also have a Harrah%26#39;s so be sure and add to your Total Rewards credits...we%26#39;ve been getting offers every month for Tunica and Biloxi but just don%26#39;t have the vacation time to take advantage of them.

The Isle of Capri is WAY nicer than ours in KC, and there is also an IP that is very nice (we%26#39;ve stayed there 3 times)

Anyway just check out the websites for each of the casinos, because they will all do a good job about offering some specials every month.

Rookie Questions

Thanks Ducky would happen to remember if you saw one of the texas holdem table games or flop poker at any of the casinos?

patrick: The Beau Rivage is easily the fanciest casino of the seven casinos in Biloxi. The Hard Rock is right next door, but as far as getting around to the other casinos, I found a car to be handy. I believe that there is a Thrifty car venue in the Beau Rivage itself, so you might just want to rent one there since you are already getting transportation to and from the airport .

The Grand is over a mile east of the Hard Rock and the Isle of Capri is another half mile east of the Grand. The IP and Boomtown are a healthy 15 minute walk north of the Beau Rivage. There is a casino- hopper that supposedly circles the seven casinos, but on our last visit to Biloxi we only saw it twice in 3 days. We were glad we had rented the car.

Foodwise, Biloxi is right up your alley. All the casinos have buffets, breakfast/lunch/dinner cafes, and there is a Waffle House and a McDonalds right across Beach Blvd from the Beau Rivage. Of course all the properties have finer dining also.

As far as table games/poker go, I can not comment, as I am a penny slot player. We were also frequent Vegas visitors, but the first visit to Biloxi made us converts.

Just keep in mind that Biloxi has gambling, and on weekends the Beau Rivage and the Hard Rock have name entertainment, but do not expect Vegas. Biloxi is a lot of fun without all the trumped up fees and prices. No glitz, just a hell of a good place to gamble and eat fairly cheaply for a couple of days.

We went for our first visit in October and we%26#39;re headed back in April. P.S. The Grand is a Harrah%26#39;s property, so bring your Total Rewards card. Mark

OK rookie...there is really not too much that has been re-built in the Biloxi area since Katrina. However, the casinos (6) are in full swing, with the Beau arguably the best of the lot. There is a shuttle bus running between casinos for $1.25. The Hard Rock is just next door to the Beau. Fast food... Waffle house nearby and McDonalds. You can%26#39;t go wrong with a stay at the Beau.

patrick, my dh has played flop poker before at Beau Rivage....think they have a couple of tables of it.

patrick, there is charter boat fishing and golf. I know the Beau has a golf package. Seems like there are a couple of courses in Biloxi.

There is Mahoney%26#39;s caddy-corner accross from the Beau that serves seafood, creole and cajun cooking. The Beau has several possibilities for regular and gormet dining. On West on Beach Blvd. into Gulfport, we like to eat Italian food at Salute%26#39; and seafood, creole, and cajun at Lookout 49. Lookout 49 is North in Gulfport up Hwy. 49 just a couple miles past the I-10 intersection. Lookout is in a regular white building with royal blue trim on the left as you go North ...right by a K-Mart or some kind of big box store like that.

Also, in Gulfport is the newish Island View Casino Resort which has an Emeril%26#39;s restaurant, a good 24 hr. cafe, buffet, etc.

Just got back, if you want to do anything besides gamble go elsewhere. My brother played at hard rock, beau, and IP., with best action and service at beau. Name of the game is no limit holdem, 1-2 and upneversaw another game dealt in 3 days. If u dont gamble good luck, because there is zero else to do! A couple bars 10 miles f biloxi on 49, a hooters 4miles down, 2 waffle houses by hooter%26#39;s, We drove the new bridge into ocean springs, so a car is a must if u wanna leave the casino at all. Granted this is the winter and 2005 devastated this area wish I%26#39;d been here 10 years ago.

Oh Everyone goes to Mary Mahoney%26#39;s because there is no where else. Excellent food but service weak. $150for 3people

True, Biloxi/Gulfport is not a Vegas; but, water, you must have missed the Imperial Palace, Palace, and Boomtown on the back bay. Also, on west of the Beau on Beach Blvd. is the Treasure Bay and in Gulfport is the Island View. On east of the Beau, besides Hard Rock, is the Isle of Capri and Grand Casino/Resort.

There are other restaurants besides the Waffle Houses (boo coo along Beach Blvd. by the way) and Mary Mahoney%26#39;s. There%26#39;s Salute Italian food restaurant in Gulfport and LookOut 49 on Hwy. 49 in Gulfport north of the I-10 intersection. All the casinos have their specialty restaurants. The Beau has a Prime, Jia, Coast (sports bar/night club/restaurant), BeauRivage Cafe, and a buffet. All the other casinos have their individual nice restaurants: Ruth%26#39;s Chris Steak (Hard Rock), etc.; Island View (Emeril%26#39;s); all casinos have their special bars and restaurants. The Beau Rivage, Hard Rock, and Island View, I know have concerts all the time.

If you are the outdoorsy type: charter boat fishing, golf courses, and the boat that goes out to Ship Island. Of course, right now, it has been the typical winter time nippy to do those things.

Biloxi/Gulfport is your typical sleepy port town and fishing town....only with several casinos. Actually, I would rather have it that way than a chaotic Vegas. Right now, it%26#39;s a peaceful little gulf side metro area....even with the casinos. I like it that way as a Mississippian.

Also, can I say one other thing: Biloxi/Gulfport is no longer ';devastated';. True, there are some empty lots here and there that had big beautiful homes on them and a few businesses. However, it has come a loooooong way since Katrina.

Wish you folks that say it%26#39;s ';devastated'; could have seen it right after Katrina hit.....then you would say that, in comparison, it is now hopping and full of hustle and bustle....rebuilding constantly....several tall condo buildings going up along Beach Blvd. The financial situation in America has kind of stalled a couple of big building plans by the casinos and other businesses, but it is still a vital area and still gets plenty of tourist business.....thank you, tourists! I am personally thankful to have our little peaceful coastline to escape to many times a year. LOVE spending my dollars down there...it is much needed during these tight times.

I recently got back from my first trip to the area. There%26#39;s a few fast food places in the area as others have mentioned but between the Beau and the Hard Rock next door you won%26#39;t have to go far for food. I seem to remember there being a line up of taxis outside where the valet parking is located so if you did want to leave you wouldn%26#39;t need your own car. If you%26#39;re going down soon, I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find too much to do besides the casinos. You can check the concert schedule at the Hard Rock and the Beau and see if there%26#39;s anything going on while you are there. I%26#39;m not sure about flop poker, but the friend I went with spent many hours playing No-limit hold-em in the poker room at the Beau.
