Our family (including three teenagers ages 16, 15, 13) will be staying with friends in Jackson in June.
We will just have come from Memphis where I will have dragged the kids to Graceland and museums and we are already planning a trip to Vicksburg, so in Jackson we would just like to ';hang out'; like a local.
What do people do for fun? Bowling? Shopping?Farmer%26#39;s Markets? Music? Theater? Biking?
What do you do for fun in Jackson?
There is good shopping at Dogwood Festival Market in Flowood (10 min drive or so from Jackson) and at a new shopping center in Madison, MS called Renaissance (also about 10 mins from Jackson). For the best Pizza you will ever eat, take you kids to the Pizza Shack downtown. It is honestly my favorite restaurant ever... I%26#39;m in England right now and I miss it so much! There%26#39;s a nice zoo in Jackson that might be worth your time as well. You can check out this website: http://www.jacksonfreepress.com/ for music and event listings in the city while you will be there.
Hope that helps! :) Definitely go to Pizza Shack. It will change your life. ;)

Oh the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is also very nice and has a beautiful walking trail. :)
Across the road from the Museum of Natural Science is the Agriculture Museum %26amp; grounds, as well as the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Both fun and interesting.
Also, eat at Primos on Lakeland. Very, very good.
BTW, thanks for th etip about the Pizza Shack.
Have never been but is on my list next time we are home.

Re shopping...
Are Dogwood Festival Market and Renaissance typical shopping malls?
What about funky independent stores? Artist co-ops? Farmer%26#39;s or Craft Markets?
Also, what is everyone%26#39;s take on the Capital Museum? Worth a trip?
Thanks for the tip about the Pizza Shack.
Dogwood is pretty typical, Renaissance is more upscale shops in that they have an Apple store %26amp; other nice shops. If you want independently owned your best bet would be to head to the Fondren district. It%26#39;s right at the end of Lakeland Drive. There are lots of restaurants in that area, plus boutique stores, a good vintage clothing store called the Orange Peel, two coffee shops, %26amp; a hybrid store that includes an organic food co-op (Rainbow Grocery), a vegetarian restaurant (High Noon Cafe), and a place where local artists sell their goods (Fondren Traders). The Fondren area is really neat and would be a fun place to explore for the day.
I have not been to the Capitol Museum since I was a kid, so sorry I can%26#39;t provide more info on that. :(
And both of you are welcome about the Pizza Shack tip; I%26#39;m always happy to share my favorite place with others. :D
Fondren sounds exactly like what we were looking for. Thanks!
Glad I could help; I hope you enjoy the trip!
